What can you expect from the workshop?

My aim is to show you the fundamentals of good lighting in your photographs. After all, lighting is probably the most important part of photography (to paint with light).

We will work with reflectors and ambient light, then I'll show you the basics of using a flashgun (not the built-in type) and then what you can get with studio lights and diffusers like softboxes and umbrellas.

On day two, we will continue with practicals and then leave some time for editing your photos. You will need a laptop and an editing program, preferably Adobe Lightroom or similar.

Lighting Equipment Examples

Who should attend?

1 / Ambient Light

If you want to improve your natural light people photography and do not necessarily want to add flash, I will show you many possibilities of using just available light to your advantage. The use of reflectors will also be explained.

2 / Flash Photography

I will teach you how to operate and understand your flash gun (external flash), both on-camera and off. You will learn how to soften the harsh light of the flash in your pictures by using diffusers to soften the light. This is essential for portrait photography.

3 / Studio Flash with a model

There will be a white backdrop and studio flash with diffusers for you to gain experience under controlled conditions. By the end of day 2, a local model will assist us in the studio where she will pose for you in a real studio setup.

3 / Photo Editing

Bring your laptop with a suitable photo editing program loaded, preferably Adobe Lightroom Classic. Depending on the time, we will edit photos from the portrait shoots on the last day of the workshop.
